The Bookshop – Projectspace
March 7-8, at 18:30 – 20:30
No time to look through the mountains? is a site-specific project by Effrosyni Kontogeorgou (GR) developed especially for the Bookshop – Projectspace during a one month residency at Skaftfell.
The artist questions exactly the nature of her residency. What can be perceived in just 30 days in an a unknown place? Merely outlines. The first and strongest impression remains the encirclement by the mountains. But do the mountains stand as a metaphor for enclosure or an orientation to open up? By means of abstraction, the house itself with its windows connecting to the outdoor surroundings, becomes the object of investigation for the artist during her stay in Seyðisfjörður.
The exhibition is divided into two room-installations and combines diverse media, such as video, pencil on paper, found objects, light and sound. The exhibition is jointly composed of three elements: with thankful reference to the local artist Garðar Eymundsson and his work the Seydisfjordur`s Circle of Mountains, outlines from the 465 pages of the book Húsasaga Seyðisfjarðarkaupstaðar by Áróra Guðmundsdóttir and some fragments from the Norðurgata residence, where the artists where hosted.
