February 25, 2019, 19:30 – 21:00, Herðubreið café.
Join us for an introduction into creative reading with the artist duo Jūra Bardauskaitė (LT) and Kęstutis Montvidas (LT), who are collaborating on the project ‘Odysseus Atlas’. Inspired by Homer’s poem and the captivating archetype of its hero – Odysseus as “the man of many turns” – the project shares a generic theme with the Odyssee and its fascination with islands.
In the talk, the wandering figure of Odysseus will guide through a suggestive discourse of myth. ‘Odysseus Atlas’ will narrate through the intricacies of the artists’ personal voyages while discovering the allure of islands. This is an open ended talk, playing with the perception of epos, and an invitation to understand its content as infinitely expanding.
Light refreshments will be available.
Jūra Bardauskaitė and Kęstutis Montvidas are artists from Lithuania, who are currently on an open-ended journey between residency programs that are situated on islands. They have been in residency at Skaftfell during January and February. Their stay is supported by the Nordic Baltic Mobility Programme.
