Mapping Sound. For his artist residency at Skaftfell in the autumn of 2022, Czech sound installation artist Jan Krtička made field recordings of site-specific locations in Seyðisfjörður and Skálanes. One can access these recordings on the website aporee.org, a database of field recordings from around the world. Jan’s residency was part of the project Gardening of Soul, a collaborative partnership between Skaftfell and Univerzita Jana Evangelisty Purkynev Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic.
Jan Krtička: I spent one month in Seyðisfjörður exploring its surroundings. The Icelandic landscape is very specific and something I had never experienced before. We all know photographs of the Icelandic landscape. But does anybody know how Iceland sounds? I recorded sounds of some places around Seyðisfjörður and placed them at aporee.org website to share my acoustic experience of this exceptional place.
