Veldi is a group exhibition by graduating students from the fine art department at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. The exhibition forms the conclusion of a two week long workshop in Seyðisfjörður. The students got assistance by locals, who have provided them with insight into the town’s diverse industries, fishing, steel forging and wool processing to name a few. The group also got insight into the isolation and uncertainty caused by snowstorms and as a consequence mountain roads being blocked.
This is the largest group of students to attend the workshop since it started, and the entourage also consists of children and family members of the students. Thus it is a diverse group, containing landlubbers and sea dogs, vegetarians and bloodthirsty carnivores, hard workers and lazybones, city slickers and hillbillies, some nursing babies while others are nursing hangovers.
The workshop is a collaboration between the Icelandic Academy of the Arts, the Dieter Roth Academy, the Technical Museum of East Iceland and Skaftfell – Center for Visual Art.
Veldi runs until June 2 and is open daily.
